What is the Future of Remote Work in 2021? Here’s all About it
On January 21, 2021 by BabilessThe world is struggling with a historic shift in the job market due to the coronavirus pandemic. While a big chunk of companies in the United States have made remote work a permanent part of their business module, other offices are finding it hard to blend with the norm.
As per a recent survey, 70% of the workforce will be working remotely at least five days a month, in 2025. Moreover, as per a Gartner survey for company leaders, 80% of leaders plan to allow their workers remote working at least part-time after the pandemic. Other than this, 47% of leaders will allow employees to work remotely full-time.
If we talk about employees’ reactions to remote working in 2020, then as per the FlexJobs Survey, 65% of respondents were willing to work remotely full-time. In the survey, 31% want a hybrid remote work option from their employers. Another important result that the survey found was that 27% of workers say that they have the ability to work from home.
These results show that 2020 was the year of remote work, but it was just the beginning.
In 2021, we will see this new work mode booming and trending.

ToggleRemote Work Becomes Permanent
The percentage of working from home employees will be doubled in 2021, predicted by the survey from Enterprise Technology Research. The chief engagement strategist Erik Bradley says that the productivity metric is proving that working remotely is working for businesses. He further added that because of the high productivity rate during remote work, it is highly likely to become permanent.
If you want to know about the big companies, paving their ways into permanent remote working then here are a bit details about the well-known the companies:
- Twitter operating in San Francisco told its employees to work remotely indefinitely, this announcement was made by Twitter in May 2020.
- Taking inspiration from Twitter, Square lead by Twitter’s Jack Dorsey told employees to work from home for an indefinite period.
- Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg also applied a similar policy and made its staff work remotely through 2020.
Remote Work Calls for Less Office Space
The remote work expert and Chief Transparency Officer at Transparent Business, Moe Vela, predicts that physically large office spaces will become a thing of the past. Companies have already taken steps into building up this reality.
In the early summer, REI; the outdoor Setauket, announced that it is selling its unused 8-acre corporate campus.
Another step toward manifesting this reality is that companies are also encouraging their employees to create home offices. For this, employees are replacing their slow internet connection with high-speed internet service providers.
High-speed internet service providers like Spectrum internet are also offering their exceptional service at affordable rates to customers all over the United States; customers can benefit from these services and build an environment that helps them become productive in remote work.
Also, Spectrum internet offers Spectrum cable TV service that provides Spectrum Silver Channels which is a bonus to have a proper home office set up that doesn’t increase burnout for employees.
Remote Work Demands for More Engagement
While working from the office, a positive attitude and strong relationships open the gate to advancement. However, this benefit cannot become part of the remote working culture.
Remote working makes it more difficult for employees to highlight their professional achievements. Not only that but employees find it hard to have a talk with their team members let alone lead or manage.
In 2021, employees might get hold of how things work in a remote working environment. Employees will become more diligent in putting extra efforts into increasing their engagement virtually.
Employees will be encouraged to participate in virtual events, keeping enthusiasm high, particularly in an online meeting and more that makes them stand out as leaders while working from home.
Remote Work Affects Performance Management
Since remote working kicked off, organizations have started to focus on work done instead of the hours employees are serving.
To maximize employees’ productivity employees will need more insight into their performance.
In 2021, Employee management tools will be used more frequently by employers to understand the efficiency of employees.
Adapt and Upgrade
There is no doubt in the fact that remote working is here to stay. So instead of running from the inevitable reality, it is time to adapt to the changes necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic and make sure you turn out to be your best in 2021.
